The financial crisis which has cost Western banks 2 to 3 trillion dollars is at the root of the economic crisis.
The reason is simple: major banks have lost a significant part if not all of their equity. And they must rebuilt their network in order to be able to lend to consumer and to the industrial sector.
This will require many years of hard work and massive help from governments.
Until this has been done economic growth will be negligible or even negative.
