Banking is no different than any other industry. Growth is of the essence in all key areas: products, clients, technology, people and profits.
Foundamentaly major banks have to decide where they want to grow. Do they want to be preeminent in their regional market, worldwide, and in newest segment of finance such as consumer banking, market activities, and wholesales landing.
Given the difficulty of being successful in all areas, banks should capitalize on their greatest strengths namely their culture and human resources in order to decide whether they should follow the strategy of conquest, consolidation or careful retreat.
